Central Florida Foreclosures Could Lead To Challenges At The Polls

Volusia County Elections Supervisor Ann McFall told Eyewitness News there have been reports that the county’s Republican Party may challenge every voter who has lost their home to foreclosure. She called representatives for both the Democrats and Republicans and found that neither party has launched an official challenge yet, but she admits this could become an issue across the state. Voters in Foreclosure may no longer live in the district where their old house is and that could make their vote vulnerable.

“I don’t think people need to lose the opportunity to vote if they can prove, number one they’re only voting one time,” said Charles Bennett, a Volusia County voter.

McFall said there are more than 1,500 foreclosures in Volusia County, but that number does not include pending foreclosures. Since Florida is such a critical state in this Presidential election, any number of factors could lead to a challenge.

“We are in new territory. It’s going to be a close race in Florida and I know both sides are looking at every scenario that they can do,” said McFall.

As for people who have moved out of their Foreclosed home, McFall said getting a change of address is an easy fix.
