City Double Charges Residents For Water Bill

CASSELBERRY, Fla. —

The city of Casselberry admitted Monday that it accidentally double charged more than 2,300 families on their water bills.

City officials say the combination of a computer glitch and human error meant that many homeowners got bills saying they'd missed last month's payment.

The bills also threatened a cut-off of water service. Some homeowners said they wished the city was doing more to get the word out about its mistake.

"More than that, they should get on the phone or do something or send someone around to notify these people something is wrong," said resident Norman Wight.

Residents who've already paid the incorrect bill will get a credit on their account or a refund if they want one.

If the bill hasn't been paid, the city asks that residents wait for a corrected bill to arrive in the mail.
