Cops: Dad Admitted To Letting Son Play With Guns

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —

Police say a Brevard County father admitted he let his 9-year-old son play with guns.

Michael Capozzi, 42, turned himself in to Satellite Beach police on Tuesday.

An investigation started two weeks ago, when Capozzi's son accidentally shot his 11-year-old friend in the chest while playing with one of his father's handguns. Investigators say Capozzi allowed his son to keep three guns in his bedroom.

Police also said the child handled and played with the guns regularly.

"Allowing juveniles easy access to any firearm without intense adult supervision can and likely will end in tragedy," said Satellite Beach Cmdr. Brad Hodge in a statement on Tuesday.

The 11-year-old who was shot in the chest spent a week in Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital. He’s expected to fully recover.

Capozzi is charged with two misdemeanors, negligence and not properly storing his guns. He’s due in court May 16.
