DCF Prints Bogus Number On Letter For Medic-Aid And Food Stamp Help

The Department of Children and Families is promising some changes after Channel 9 discovered a bogus number printed in a DCF letter.

Eyewitness News found some people can't get through to DCF offices to get Medic-Aid and food stamps because the agency printed the wrong phone number on a computer generated letter. The letter was sent to hundreds of families in need.

Tyesha Edwards was told to call 407-999-9999.

"It doesn't work. That is the number they gave me and it doesn't work," said Edwards of the DCF phone number.

DCF said the problem started when an employee hit the wrong key stroke and the system defaulted and printed the bogus number. The agency is considering a statewide 1-800 number.
