Deputies: Suspicious Device At Bank Harmless

ORLANDO, Fla. —

The bomb squad was called to a Bank of America in Orlando after a worker discovered a suspicious device that officials said turned out to be some sort of religious shrine.

The SWAT team evacuated the bank on Sand Lake Road and shut down several nearby streets while they sent in a robot to disassemble the device.

Deputies said the device was some type of religious shrine, most likely related to the Caribbean religion Santería.

Officials said the shrine looked like a cross and was surrounded by pictures, money, corn husks, avocado and lemons. They said there were also beer cans found that possibly contained liquid.

The device was destroyed, and officials are in the process of reopening the bank.

Officials said they were concerned because a similar situation happened at a bank in another state and there were explosive devices.
