LEESBURG, Fla. —
Police said it appears to be a military mortar round, probably from WWII. Workers were digging in the outfield when they found it.
"It apparently is a mortar, one of the larger size mortar devices," explained Major Steve Rockefeller, Leesburg Police Department. "It's approximately four inches in diameter and 14 inches long."
A bomb expert from Patrick Air Force Base is going to examine the mortar. Police believe it's probably a dud, but are taking no chances.
