Files Containing Personal Records Found In Dumpster

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —

A man called Channel 9 after he found a dumpster filled with files that contained people’s name’s, addresses, and social security numbers.

When Chris Lane cut through a parking lot on Lee Road near I-4, he spotted a filing cabinet next to a dumpster and decided to take it. That’s when he noticed what was inside the dumpster.

He pulled one folder out of the pile and discovered the perfect opportunity for identity theft.

“I’ve seen photocopies of drivers licenses, social security numbers, addresses, telephone numbers, bank account info, basically someone’s entire identity” Lane explained.

His discovery lead him to call Channel 9, and Saturday night, we found the folders too. We were able to take a couple before being asked to leave.

Inside the folders, we found records of home sales that all linked back to abstractors title company.

We haven’t been able to reach the company’s owner, or the dumpster company, but when we returned Sunday, the files were gone.

Lane just hoped they’ve been disposed of properly. “They saw me here, they saw you show up, and for them to pull it out, that says something. They know they weren’t doing right.

We contacted one of the couples whose information we found. They were understandably upset to learn their personal information had been found in a dumpster and were able to meet up with us to collect their file.

We are still contacting other people whose information we found.
