ORLANDO, Fla. —
The injunction was filed in order to prevent members from being arrested for feeding the homeless in Lake Eola Park, even though they are violating permitting laws.
More than 20 members have been arrested for feeding the homeless without the proper permitting.
Just this week, the group's co-founder Keith McHenry was arrested again. He had been warned not to trespass at the park, but he crossed into park limits while setting up a literature table on Wednesday.
It appears the pressure is mounting against the group to take its food and message somewhere else.
WFTV was there earlier in the week when the group had a dispute with code enforcement officers over its signage. The group's lawyer claims the city's ongoing arrests for homeless meals violated a court order that mandated citations, not handcuffs.
The group held a press conference on Friday at a site on Syliva Lane, where the mayor wants them to relocate to feed the homeless. They say that site is out of the way and unacceptable.
If the case goes to court, it could come with a major price tag for the city.
A lawsuit filed by Food Not Bombs in 2006, dragged out four years and cost Orlando nearly $200,000.
