Former Football Star Accused Of Sex With Child

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —

A former DeLand High School football player is charged with having sex with a 12-year-old girl. However, his mother told Eyewitness News the accusations are unbelievable.

18-year old Kentrell Gillislee was charged with lewd battery on a 12-year old girl. DeLand police say the former high school running back pressured the girl into having sex with him while her parents were not home.

Gillislee's mother is accusing the victim of changing her story several times, and says her son is innocent.

"It's a lie. It's a lie. And I truly believe my son. It's a lie. It's a lie. He's not the one who's had sex with her," said the suspect's mother, Nicole Pitts.

Gillislee has earned a scholarship to play football at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida. His mother says her son can still play pending the outcome of this case.
