George Spencer

I joined the Eyewitness News team in March of 2008. Coming to the Sunshine State was a big shift for me: I spent the last three years at a cable news station in New York City. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas.

While in New York, I worked as a reporter and anchor for News 12 The Bronx and Brooklyn. At News 12, most of the reporters work as "one man bands" -- meaning we produced, shot, edited and appeared on-camera in all of our own stories. My time in the Big Apple was a real "sink or swim" learning experience.

Before getting my start on-air, I honed my skills at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and as a news assistant at New York 1 News, where I worked on weekends. At Columbia, I was one of two students chosen for the DuPont Awards Fellowship. We worked with the DuPont Award administrator to produce a special PBS program highlighting the work of that year's winners. Before grad school, I attended Princeton University and majored in politics.

I spend a lot of my time outside of work exercising. I love to run, so you may well see me jogging through your Central Florida neighborhood sometime soon. If you do, I hope you'll stop me and say hello.

I'm always on the lookout for story ideas that affect you and your family, so pass those along too -- either through the email address below, or in person!
