CENTRAL FLORIDA —
The flyers attack Webster and, because no one knows who sent them or who paid for them, they are against the law. The flyers have been brought to the FBI's attention.
Two political flyers went out last week, slamming U.S. congressional candidate Dan Webster for supporting unfunded mandates and touting Dunmire's opposition to such mandates.
"People can certainly say and send out ads about political campaigns, but the elected officials have decided that we should also have a right to know who is trying to influence campaigns," UCF political science professor Aubrey Jewett told WFTV.
WFTV tried to find out where they came from. The union stamp on the flyers matches Lawton Printing in Casselberry. WFTV went there and asked if Lawton had printed the flyers and, if so, who paid for them. Lawton told WFTV it protects the confidentiality of its clients.
The flyers were mailed out just days after controversial political consultant Doug Guetzloe was sentenced to 60 days in jail for a 2006 charge of sending out flyers without disclaimers. Guetzloe is a founder of the Florida Tea Party, whose candidate is praised on the flyer.
Grayson's campaign says it didn't do it. There was no response from Dunmire yet.
WFTV asked voters how they feel about the anonymous flyers.
"It seems they might have a second agenda if they don't want to mention who they are. Makes it a lot less credible," voter Chris Deleuze said.
Guetzloe has not responded to WFTV either, but there's no indication he's involved.
Investigators said only the one who paid for the flyers is in trouble, not the printer and not the mail service.
