LAKE COUNTY, Fla. —
The Lake County Health Department issued a mosquito borne illness advisory Friday.
The advisory was issued after the department learned that two horses died from complications of the Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) virus. According to a press release from the health department, neither of the horses had received EEE vaccinations.
This is the first reported horse deaths from EEE in Lake County in 2011, according to the release.
EEE is caused by a virus that is transmitted by mosquitoes and it can infect humans. According to the health department, the risk to humans has increased.
