APOPKA, Fla. —

Police said a man stabbed his mother and his 9-year-old nephew while they slept in their Apopka home early Saturday.

Apopka police officers and emergency rescue crews were called to the home on Himalayan Court around 2:45 a.m.

According to police, a 911 call was received after the man's mother, Ercilia Francisco, ran to a neighbor's house with multiple stab wounds. Francisco was rushed to a hospital, where police said she was in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Francisco quickly told police she had been attacked by her son while she was sleeping, investigators said. She also explained that her son, 29-year-old Abraham Francisco, was still inside the home.

Police said they found Abraham Francisco trying to climb out of a back window. While taking him into custody, he told officers his 9-year-old nephew was inside the house.

Crews located the 9-year-old, who had also been stabbed multiple times. The child was taken to a nearby hospital and was in stable condition.

Investigators said they are still trying to determine a motive and what led up to the attacks.

Abraham Francisco was charged with two counts of attempted murder, use of a deadly weapon during a felony and child abuse. He was booked into the Orange County Jail.
