BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —
A surfer in Brevard County is recovering from a shark bite Thursday.
Brandon Taylor, 21, said he had just paddled out in the Sebastian Inlet when a 5-foot bull shark bit down on his arm.
He said he and his friend swam back in and used his wrist leash to create a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
Taylor said shark bites are something to always be prepared for.
"Be ready for an instance like that and just know in the back of your mind that it can happen at any time and know what to do," Taylor said.
Taylor was rushed to a nearby fire department after the attack.
He ended up with 14 stitches and a scar.
Taylor said he will be OK to surf another day.
