Brevard man gets life sentence for killing wife

MELBOURNE, Fla. —

A Central Florida man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing his estranged wife and a man she was living with.

A Brevard County judge sentenced 41-year-old Patrick Wharen Sr. on Thursday, following a jury recommendation from earlier this week. The same panel convicted Wharen last week on two counts of first-degree murder. Florida Today reports that Wharen had been facing a possible death sentence.

Authorities say Wharen fatally shot 34-year-old Kelly Wharen and 19-year-old Jonathon Vuick during a confrontation at Kelly Wharen and Vuick's home in April 2008.
