MELBOURNE, Fla. —
A search is under way in Brevard County for burglars who, authorities said, managed to get away despite two dangerous crashes that sent an innocent bystander to the hospital.
Palm Bay police said an alert resident along Northeast Haddon Avenue called them about 1 p.m. Units arrived to find two suspects stealing a motorcycle from a home and speeding off with it.
The other men followed in a stolen Dodge Intrepid with police in pursuit.
Investigators said the suspects caused a bystander to crash his motorcycle.
But the suspects’ getaway care ended up crashing into a house in Melbourne.
Authorities said they have arrested two suspects, but two more are still on the run.
As police were searching for the suspects along Main Street in Melbourne, officers noticed Skywitness 9 HD in the air and called Channel 9 to ask if the pilot was able to see the two burglary suspects.
The vehicle continued to elude police until crashing into a home on Saxon Street in Melbourne. Police said the suspects bailed from the car, leaving behind ammunition and stolen property.
“That indicates these people could be involved in burglaries in the area,” said Lt. Greg Latulippe of the Palm Bay Police Department. “We’re looking for two other black male subjects, and were working to ID them.”
The two suspects in custody are juveniles, police said. They’ve been charged with burglary, grand theft auto and resisting arrest. Their names have not been released.
Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
