POLK COUNTY, Fla. —

A 14-year-old girl was behind the wheel in a crash that killed her mother and younger sister, Polk County deputies said.

Destiny Ensslin turned into the path of a minivan on US-17 in Homeland on Monday, deputies said.

Her 42-year-old mother and 8-year-old sister were killed.

Investigators said the elderly driver of the van and her husband were injured in the crash, but were expected to make a full recovery.

Ensslin was hospitalized in critical condition.
