Deputies in Volusia County had to chase down a man suspected of running off from his sentencing hearing on Monday.

Samuel Smith is the son of Kim Smith, a suspect in the murders of Goldie Robinson and Arthur Sheldon. He is one of four people charged with using the victims' credit cards.

Deputies wasted no time when a man facing jail time made a run for it. At least that's what they originally thought of Samuel Smith, who had a warrant for his arrest for not paying child support.

Smith showed upat the Daytona Beach courthouse to be sentenced for credit card fraud. The cards he used belonged to Robinson, the senior found buried alongside Sheldon behind a South Daytona mobile home in 2010.

"Were you trying to run?" asked WFTV's Blaine Tolison.

"Nope," said Smith.

"It looked like you were trying to run," said Tolison.

"Smoking a cigarette," replied Smith.

"Do you know how Goldie and Arthur ended up in the ground in South Daytona?" asked Tolison.

"No, sir," replied Smith.

The mobile home belonged to Kim Smith. She is now serving a 15-year sentence on charges of using both Robinson's and Sheldon's identities and credit to buy things. She acted as their caregiver and police said Sam Smith benefited from Robinson's property.

Kim Smith has not been charged with murder.

In court, Sam Smith was sentenced to three years' probation and drug court. He must also pay restitution to Robinson's family and court costs.

Sam Smith will not be charged for fleeing, but he went to jail for not paying child support, which was unrelated to Monday's sentencing.
