A Polk County mail carrier was arrested Friday, accused of trying to poison her husband

Investigators said Beth Richards, 37, admitted that she crushed up anti-depressant pills called Trazodone and mixed them into her husband's tuna sandwich.

"About lunch, he started eating his tuna fish sandwich and noticed it had kind of a aspirin aftertaste, so he only ate about half of it," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "His wife texted him throughout the day and asked him, 'Hey have you ate your tuna fish sandwich?'"

Investigators said after lunch, Greg Richards returned to work as an electrician where he became dizzy and nauseous. They said he eventually passed out while up on a ladder and was rushed to the hospital.

Judd said the suspect started to gloat.

"She told the step sister, 'Yeah, I crushed up some pills and put in the sandwich to see if I can poison him,'" said Judd.

Investigators said they also found marijuana in Beth Richard's bedroom.

She is being held in jail and has been charged with attempted murder, and with poisoning food with the intent to kill, along with drug charges, according to investigators.

Detectives said they are still trying to figure out a motive. But they do know the victim had a life insurance policy worth $250,000,

Greg Richards has been released from the hospital.
