Deputies search for cop impersonator in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —

Volusia County deputies are searching for a man they say impersonated a cop and tried to get into a woman's car.

Brandon Green said she was pulled over at the intersection of Prevatt Avenue and State Road 44 in DeLand.

Green told 9-1-1 dispatchers the man used flashing lights to pull her over, then approached the vehicle and said her taillight was out.

But Green said she then realized he wasn't in uniform or in a police vehicle.

"I was pulled over, but the guy that pulled me over was not a police officer and he tried to get into my vehicle," Green told the dispatcher.

She said the man asked her to get out of the car and then grabbed the door and tried to get inside.

"It just seemed too odd, and I just said, 'Well, don't you want my license," Green told the dispatcher.

Green said she drove away before the man could get in and spent the next 30 minutes weaving in and out of traffic and on the phone with 9-1-1.

Green eventually stopped and met with deputies.

Officials confirmed the man was not one of them.
