BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —
Family and friends are mourning the loss of a rising teen athlete and her friend killed in a crash caused by a suspected drunk driver late Thursday night.
The soccer field at Melbourne High School was dark Friday night but friends of 18-year-old Rachel Price said she was a natural at lighting it up with her athletic talent, before she graduated last year.
Price was ranked as a top soccer player in the state. This year Price was playing soccer for Eckerd College.
"She was a fantastic athlete and even greater of a person," said Davison Fasanella, a friend of Price's.
In a video she expressed her excitement over her college team.
"I'm pretty excited and I'm really stoked that I'll be playing with this team because this team is starting to become a family," Price said in the video.
Price's college teammates at Eckerd College held a candlelight vigil Friday night.
Price and friend Jamaree Cook, who also attended Melbourne High, were killed in a fiery crash on U.S. 192 outside St. Cloud late Thursday night.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers arrested Randall Kerley, 47, in connection with the fatal accident.
According to troopers, Kerley was drunk when he turned his truck in front of the car Price was driving. Police said a breathalyzer showed his alcohol level to be one-and-a-half times the legal limit, four hours after the accident.
Kerley bonded out of jail Friday afternoon.
"That's how easy it is just for people to lose their lives in the blink of an eye because of one person's mistake," said Fasanella.
Troopers said Kerley dropped off his children before the deadly accident.
