ORLANDO, Fla. —
Florida A&M University was placed on a year-long probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-Commission on Colleges Tuesday.
The move comes in the wake of a series of scandals, including the hazing death of drum major Robert Champion.
Champion was killed after the Florida Classic in Orlando in 2011.
If FAMU's accreditation is revoked, its students won't be eligible for federal financial aid.
The school's interim president said the probation doesn’t affect the current accreditation of academic programs.
