DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —
First lady Michelle Obama campaigned in Daytona Beach, pushing voters to get to the polls.
She said she wants supporters to vote and vote early – and to motivate others to do the same.
In front of a crowd of thousands, Obama said Florida is too important to ignore.
She asked her grassroots supporters to get out the vote for President Barack Obama.
"Florida, are you in this? Are you fired up? Are you ready to go? You get out there and vote like you've never voted before," Obama said.
The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach was one of three stops in Florida for the first lady, who came with campaign leaders and even singer Mark Anthony to help energize the crowd.
Her message to them was why giving the president four more years is crucial to America.
"Are we going to just sit back and just watch everything we've worked for and fought for just slip away? Or are we going to keep moving this country forward?" said Obama.
Supporters waited hours for her speech and 50 or so were treated for heat-related illnesses.
When she took the stage, supporters said they were charged by her words and with such a thin margin between the candidates, supporters said that's what this campaign needs.
"I'm hoping that the president wins, you know, that's why I'm here; to put my support in. Hoping he gets over 50 percent in Florida," said supporter Steve Moss.
Officials with Daytona Beach Fire Dept. said 5,000 people were in attendance, but White House Staff reported 6,500.
