ORLANDO, Fla. —

The man known as the "Death Row Romeo" was executed Tuesday night.

Manuel Pardo was pronounced dead at 7:47 p.m.

The former police officer admitted to killing nine people in 1986, some of whom were drug dealers, saying he wanted to rid the streets of scum.

His lawyers tried Tuesday to stop the execution, arguing he was mentally ill.

He was dubbed the Death Row Romeo because he persuaded dozens of women to send him money.
