VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —
Five goats were stolen from a Volusia County farm and it isn't the first goat theft in the area.
"I think that somebody knew what they were doing," said RD Davis, owner of the missing goats.
The goat thieves slipped into a barn at the Davis home in rural Volusia county late last night and made off with an adult goat and four kids, according to Davis.
"We've never had a problem for as long as we've owned goats," said Davis.
Davis said he's had goats in his back yard for around a decade. He said his son has worked on improving the breeding lines of goats for show and sale.
Davis said he believes the goats were stolen to be sold as meat. He said a goat might bring in around $200.
An 83-year-old man in nearby DeLand lost two female mountain goats to thieves about a month ago. They haven't been found.
"Nobody wants to lose their animals, whether it be a dog, cat, goat, horse, cattle or whatever," said Davis.
Davis said the stolen goats are worth roughly $1,500.
Davis said the thieves were polite enough to shut the gate so that the other goats couldn't get out.
