ORLANDO, Fla. —
Rep. John Mica is pushing for a transportation hub in downtown Orlando.
Channel 9 found out there are talks between the state, Greyhound and Lynx to put a private bus terminal on public land, next door to the Public Transportation Authority.
Mica said he got the wheels rolling.
"We think there is an opportunity for vacant land to be utilized, for good transportation connections," said Mica.
Mica believes it's such a prime spot because it's next to Interstate 4 and within walking distance to the future SunRail Station.
When asked who would foot the bill for the project, Mica said, "They can work out a property swap; they could work out a lease. Taxpayers could actually earn income from the private sector by utilizing this property."
While some said they worry about congestion, people who ride the bus told Channel 9 they love the idea.
"Yeah, I think it would be better to have more buses," said Orlando resident Lari Anne Warner.
Lynx's operating area is 2,500 square miles.
Greyhound connects to more than 38,000 locations nationwide.
