Lightning strike sets house on fire

ORANGE CO., Fla. —

An elderly Orange County woman is staying with friends after a lighting strike sparked a fire that ripped through her house.

Firefighters were able to quickly put out the blaze on Luzon Drive, off Oak Ridge Road around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The woman said she was home with her daughter when the storms hit, and the next thing she knew, she heard the lighting strike.

"I heard it hit. 'Boom!' And it shook the house," said Dorothy Price.

She said she was on her back porch when the fire started and she didn't know the house was on fire.

"I come in the house and I smelled smoke," said Price.

Neighbors saw Price's house was on fire and ran over to help her.

"There was fire coming out of the house," said Abraham Mendozo, Price's neighbor. "I saw fire on the roof."

Firefighters were able to stop the home from burning the home to the ground, but they have deemed it uninhabitable.

Neither Price nor her daughter, who was in the house with her, was injured.

"It could have come around the corner and hit me, but it didn't," said Price. "Praise God."

The woman said she doesn't have insurance.
