ORLANDO, Fla. —
The latest unemployment report shows U.S. employers added 171,000 jobs in October, but the unemployment rate rose slightly to 7.9 percent, according to the U.S. Labor Department.
Pamela Nabors, president of Workforce Central Florida, said she believes the latest job numbers should encourage people trying to find work.
“It really does show that jobs are coming back to Central Florida,” said Nabors.
Unemployment in Central Florida fell to 8.2 percent in October, down 2 percent from October 2011.
Nabors said there are jobs available, especially in the fields of tourism and leisure, manufacturing, healthcare, technology and computer support.
Although some of the jobs are entry level and pay minimum wage, Channel 9 found many pay substantially more and jobseekers said more highly sought after jobs are becoming available every day.
“Now a day compared to 2008 and 2009, the job search is much better. There is job opportunity, but you just have to go out and get it,” said jobseeker Genesis Wright.
According to experts, small businesses are also looking to hire more employees.
