ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —
An 18-year-old driver was ticketed for causing a crash with a Lynx bus that sent 10 people to the hospital.
The crash shut down Rio Grande Avenue at 42nd Street in Orange County in the middle of rush hour.
Witnesses told WFTV the driver of a beige car seemed to be speeding and trying to beat the bus as it drove north.
Officials said the driver of the car, 18-year-old Keeshay Pruitt, abruptly pulled out from a stop sign to travel northbound on Rio Grande Ave in the direct path of the Lynx bus.
The bus driver, 61-year-old Alma Hunter, of Orlando, attempted to evade the car, but the front of the bus struck the front of Pruitt's car.
The impact forced Pruitt's vehicle into another car.
"The bus and the beige car collided and started to slide together and lost complete control. We started screaming because we thought it was going to go through the gates," said witness Rosa Martinez.
Firefighters had to cut the top off Pruitt's car to get her out. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
A person from the other car, Hunter and seven bus passengers were also hospitalized with minor injuries.
