LAKELAND, Fla. —

Lakeland police said a 92-year-old man, who was hit by a slow-moving pickup truck on Monday, died from injuries that he received when he fell from the impact.

Police said Thomas Painter started to cross the travel lane of a Walmart parking lot on US-98 N, when 52-year-old David McDaniel of Birmingham, Ala, made a right turn into the same lane.

Painter was hit by the truck at a low speed, police said. He was transported to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, as a result of his fall.

Painter died shortly after arriving at the hospital, police said.

Police said the case remains under investigation.
