Mother held without bond in baby's slaying

POLK COUNTY, Fla. —

A central Florida woman accused of killing her 1-year-old son is being held without bond.

Jail records show that 32-year-old Neha Patel was being held Monday in the infirmary of the Polk County jail. She faces a charge of first-degree murder.

The sheriff's office says Patel, who suffers from postpartum depression, killed her son last week. She was arrested Friday after police say she returned to her Lakeland home and told her husband she had killed the boy.

An autopsy determined that Ishan Patel drowned and suffered blunt force trauma to his face. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Jail records did not show whether Patel had an attorney.
