DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —
Officials said a fire in a storage unit near a Daytona Beach hotel caused an estimated $80,000 in damage Thursday evening.
The fire broke out in a storage unit that was being used to hold old furniture and equipment while the Mayan Inn Hotel undergoes renovations.
The storage unit was located right next to the hotel and the fire was threatening the hotel's structure and cars in the parking lot, according to officials.
While fire crews were battling the fire, a man jumped from a second floor balcony to the first floor because flames were extending up to the balcony. The unidentified man was taken the Halifax hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire after it caused heavy damage to the hotel and one vehicle. Officials said the hotel sustained roughly $80,000 in damage.
The hotel had to be evacuated during the incident, but guests have since been allowed back inside.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
