ORLANDO, Fla. —
When a struggling Orange County school didn't have enough computers to go around, members of the community stepped in.
Carver Middle School teacher Aarron Macon said it’s been tough to teach his computer class because there are 40 students in the class and a quarter of them don't have a computer in front of them, which slows the lesson down.
“A lot of times, being that my students have to share, they don't get a chance to practice the way they need to practice,” said Macon.
But when members of the community heard about the situation, they decided to do something.
The Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity teamed up with corporate sponsors and bought the school nine new computers that were delivered on Thursday.
“You know you can't expect the school to function on its own,” said Jim Storr of the fraternity. “They need us, and we need them."
Because of the donation, students will now be able to have their own computer, which will help Macon move more quickly through the lessons without leaving anyone behind.
“I can teach everyone at once,” he said.
Right now, Carver Middle is a D-rated school. But with the community support, teachers believe things are starting to turn around.
