ORLANDO, Fla. —

An Orlando International Airport TSA agent was fired from his job Wednesday after being accused stealing an iPad during an ABC News undercover investigation.

Security camera footage showed Andy Ramirez with the iPad, which was planted during the investigation, after it had gone through the screening process.

The investigation took place at 10 major airports with a history of theft problems. TSA agents from all of the airports returned items to passenger luggage, except in Orlando.

GPS technology showed it ended up in Ramirez's home 30 miles away.

ABC News reporter Brian Ross asked Ramirez where he got the iPad.

"My wife," said Ramirez.

"Your wife?" said Ross.

"My wife says she got the iPad and brought it home."

A total of 381 TSA officers have been fired for stealing since 2003, 11 of them this year.

Rep. John Mica of Orlando said the TSA sometimes advertises for employees on top of pizza boxes.

"They don't vet them. I've had examples in Central Florida where people have been fired from law enforcement and ended up as screeners," Mica said.

WFTV asked officials what they're doing to better protect passengers.

A spokesperson said the agency has a zero tolerance theft policy and sent a four-page self-assessment employees are required to complete before they're hired.

Officials did not answer questions about whether background checks are done properly.
