OVIEDO, Fla. —
After more than a decade of delays, renderings of Oviedo's new Oviedo on theĀ Park have been released.
The city plans to break ground next week on the project that hit a snag after the first developer committed suicide.
Channel 9's Karla Ray got a personal tour of the project on Wednesday from Oviedo Mayor Dominic Persampiere.
"You see the signs that say stuff is coming soon; Panera and stuff like that, but nobody's really broke any ground," said resident Justin Kelly.
But WFTV got the first glimpse of what Oviedo on the Park will finally look like when it's done.
Brand new developer renderings reveal plans for a veteran's memorial, pavilion and splash park.
And according to Persampiere, eventually there will be boat rides on the lake in chicken vessels similar to the swan boats on Lake Eola.
"We've had many plans about many different amenities around the lake," said Persampiere. "This is the first time that we're bringing it into construction drawings."
The park project itself will take up 60 acres and the mayor hopes it sparks even more development from some nearby land that's still for sale.
"This is really going to be the crown jewel, the center of the city," said Persampiere.
The project will also feature a dog park, amphitheater and farmer's market, officials said, as well as apartments, which will be completed in the first construction phase over the next two years.
