OVIEDO, Fla. —
Oviedo city leaders decided to allow a new Dollar General store, despite protests from residents on Monday night.
The store will be built across from Oviedo High School on State Road 426.
A few dozen residents from the nearby Biltmore community showed up at the city council meeting on Monday to speak out against the store.
Earlier Monday, residents put protest signs on mailboxes, a front gate, and even cars.
The store could bring in nearly 300 cars a day so residents are worried about extra traffic, as well as crime and the fact that the store just won't fit in in their community.
"In my opinion there's nothing pretty or aesthetically appealing about a Dollar General store," said resident Robert Kissinger.
The city did put some restrictions on Dollar General though to try to appease residents.
It has to have lights that shine only on the parking lot, so that they won't be a distraction in the neighborhood.
There are specified traffic patterns that will have to be followed for the parking lot and the store can only get deliveries from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
