The Florida Highway Patrol said its searching for a driver they believe struck and killed a pedestrian in Zellwood Saturday.

Troopers said 31-year-old Dennis Greenhaw Jr.  had just left his job at a Chili's restaurant in Apopka. They said he was standing with a bicycle along the northbound side of Orange Blossom Trail near Spillman Drive when he was hit.

Pauley Joy, the victim's mother, said she is very angry that a driver hit her only son and kept going.

"You didn't have to leave him to die on his own. I hope you never have to go through something like this with one of your children," Joy said.

Someone passing by saw Greenhaw lying on the shoulder of OBT around 8 a.m. Saturday. However, investigators believe the victim could have been lying there for eight to 10 hours before being found.

"If you were so scared of getting caught for what you did you could have gone to a damn pay phone and you could have called in anonymous so he could've got help," explained the upset mother.

FHP released a description of the suspected vehicle as a white Volkswagen passenger car.

"Dennis was a very likable person," said Joy. "He was good-hearted."
