A gunman behind a shootout at a park packed with children that sent one person to the hospital was arrested on Tuesday, Daytona Beach police said.

Police said the shootout happened Monday afternoon at Derbyshire Park.

Daytona Beach police said an altercation broke out between Oceann Maddox and Stephon Stropshire, while hundreds of people were attending Pop Warner football practice.

Coaches tried to break up the fight, but police said Maddox went to a car and grabbed a gun, and then fired shots into the air. He then went inside another car with other occupants and fired another shot into a green car that Stropshire had gotten into, police said.

A woman, who heard the shots fired, came out of her door to see what was going on and was shot in the leg, according to police.

The woman is in the hospital and her condition is unknown.

"You've got a bunch of young punks, gun toting thugs that think they're cowboys that decide to settle a dispute in the middle of a football field surrounded by 150 kids and exchange gunfire," said Police Chief Mike Chitwood.

Maddox and Stropshire were arrested on charges of firing a gun from a vehicle.
