TITUSVILLE, Fla. —
Titusville police arrested three suspected teenage car thieves Thursday evening.
The arrests came just as the police chief told City Council that juveniles are responsible for many of the nearly 40 cars thefts in the city in less than two months.
One of the teens, Daquan Kent, 18, was booked into the Brevard County Jail.
Detectives said Kent, along with minors Dontreivius Byron and Thomas Moses, stole a car. Investigators said the trio then took the car on a joyride before ditching it after leading police on a chase.
Tonight the group denied any involvement.
"We didn't do nothing, man," said Kent.
Police said Kent even ran into a home while a woman was in the shower, to hide from police.
Kent didn't appear to be worried about his charges when WFTV's Renee Stoll questioned him Thursday evening.
"I'll be out tonight," said Kent.
Detectives said they think the three are part of a larger ring thought to be responsible for nearly 40 car thefts since early December.
Officials said Byron and Moses will go to juvenile detention and could be out in three weeks.
"A lot of the times yes, they spend 21 days in. They get an ankle monitor. They'll cut their ankle monitor off. They have no respect for the system," said Det. Tyler Wright, with the Titusville Police Department.
Police said they are trying to watch the teens suspected in car thefts by doing constant curfew checks.
Officers said in most of the car thefts, the suspects found a spare key and drove off.
