ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. —
Orange County deputies said it only took a month for a manager and another worker to steal $35,000 worth of electronics from a Walmart on South John Young Parkway.
So far, manager Gregory Sherrod is the only one who has been arrested, but he denies everything and said the accusations are bogus.
But investigators said Sherrod had a system that allowed him and other employees to take the loot right out theĀ back door.
The thefts included all kinds of electronics from iPads, iPod touches to video game consoles and laptop computers, authorities said.
"It wasn't really stealing," said Sherrod. "It's just some conspiracy going on."
Investigators said Sherrod stuffed the electronics into some sort of totes and placed them with pile of garbage. Then, a little while later, he took them outside and stashed the loot near a dumpster, authorities said.
A little while later, deputies said, Sherrod and another employee would drive around back and pick it up during their lunch break and then re-sell the items for cash.
The thefts were captured on surveillance video.
"They say they have it on surveillance video," Channel 9's Jeff Deal said to Sherrod.
"That's what I'm saying, they got to let me know what they have, because they may have seen something that looked like I was doing it, but I wasn't," said Sherrod.
"They said you took $35,000 worth of stuff," said Deal.
"If I had $35,000 worth of stuff, why would I be standing around this neighborhood? What would I do with $35,000 worth of merchandise?" said Sherrod.
But according to the police report, Sherrod is easily identifiable in the surveillance video.
