VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —
An early morning crash on Monday left a probation officer dead and a mess of littered court documents scattered on Interstate 4 in Volusia County.
The victim, Joseph Wall, 26, was a probation officer with a private firm in Osceola County.
Troopers said Wall lost control of his SUV and was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said.
Authorities said Wall might have survived had he been wearing a seat belt.
"The safest place you can be in a crash is in your vehicle, secured with your seat belt," said Kim Montes of the Florida Highway Patrol.
Road workers picked up the documents scattered in the wreck and put them in garbage bags. Crews said they're being returned to the company that Wall worked for.
"Once we determined who this person was and what the papers were, troopers, road rangers and other personnel, all those papers were picked up and secured," said Montes. "We've notified Osceola probation."
Troopers said they're still trying to determine what caused Wall to lose control of his SUV.
