A major central Florida supermarket chain is recalling some food products.

Publix shopper Dave Ensign said the temptation to buy cakes from the store is, on any other day, too much.

"I'll order a cake every week. I just love their cake," said Ensign.

Now Ensign and many other shoppers across the region are thinking twice about purchasing the Publix products.

The supermarket giant has announced that they recalled 45 various bakery cake products from stores in more than 20 central Florida and Tampa-area counties.

"Wow that's pretty scary because usually you hear about the meat or vegetables," said Ensign.

According to Publix, the cakes are potentially contaminated with listeria, a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in children or the elderly.

Publix said they issued the recall after being notified of the contamination by their supplier, Maplehurst.

Officials say the cakes were sold from Sunday to Thursday of this week.

All of the potentially contaminated products have been taken off the shelves, the company said.

Publix said they have received no reports of illnesses.
