DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —
Officials say a number of mostly elderly residents have been stranded inside the Maley Apartments on Daytona Beach because of broken elevators.
The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the 13-floor building run by the Daytona Beach Housing Authority houses 150 apartments. Residents say the elevators have been out since Friday, when a storm from the passing Hurricane Sandy hit the area.
Jesse Jane Marsden told the newspaper that she's been stuck in her 11th floor apartment all weekend. She says she's disabled due to severe varicose veins in her legs. She's had to rely on a neighbor to take her 15-year-old Chihuahua down the stairs to be walked.
Residents received letters apologizing for any inconvenience and promising that the elevators would be repaired on Monday.
