FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. —

Scientists said it will be several weeks before they determine what caused the death of a rare whale that washed up on a beach in Flagler County.

A North Atlantic right whale was discovered north of Flagler Beach Wednesday morning.

Officials said the young whale was one of 400 in existence.

Experts performed a necropsy on the animal and then buried the remains on the beach.

Samples taken from the whale are still being studied.
