A serial hit-and-run driver is back out on the streets after being released from jail early.

In October, Ronald Moffett was sentenced to 60 days in jail for charges stemming from an Eyewitness News investigation that caught him driving numerous times on a suspended license.

Instead of serving out his sentence, Moffett was released from just almost two weeks early.

"He should have had to pull the full 60 days," said Tami Cardwell, the mother of the teen Moffett was convicted of hitting nearly four years ago.

"No one is safe as long as he is on the road and when I found out he is already out, it's like 'Oh, no' he's on the road again," said Cardwell.

Tami and Jeff Cardwell's son is still in a vegetative state. Moffett served a year for that hit-and-run crash and not long after that he was charged for another.

"This is why most criminals do what they do, because they know the justice system is broke," Jeff Cardwell said.

Moffett was let out on Monday, 10 days early, because of good behavior.

Jail officials said they had no choice and that Florida statute allows inmates to accumulate time each month if they don't get in trouble while behind bars.

The Cardwells said they're convinced the law needs to change.

"Everybody in this town is at rick … he doesn't care. He'll hit someone else," said Tami Cardwell.

WFTV tried to talk to Moffett and went to his last address, but he has since moved.
