TALLAHASSEE, Fla. —
Sunday marks six months since Trayvon Martin's death.
He was shot and killed on February 26 in Sanford after buying iced tea and Skittles.
On Sunday, Martin's parents joined with Reverend Al Sharpton for a special event in Tallahassee.
"Justice is what we are seeking," said Martin's mother, Sabrina Martin.
The church services at Bethel Baptist Church in Tallahassee were designed to raise awareness about social justice.
It brought together two families who were both rocked by tragedy. The parents of Robert Champion joined the parents of Martin.
Investigators said Champion died after being hazed after the Florida Classic football game in Orlando last November.
The Martin family's attorney said the unarmed teenager's death is an historical reference point in American criminal justice.
"The crux of the matter is why they didn't drug test the shooter of Trayvon Martin the night he shot Trayvon," said Benjamin Crump.
Crump also said it's important to be in Tallahassee because it's ground zero for all things political, including fighting Florida's Stand Your Ground Law.
"I would hope that this judicial system shows the world because the whole world is watching Florida," said Sharpton.
George Zimmerman claims Martin attacked him and he shot the teen in self-defense. Zimmerman is currently charged with second-degree murder.
