VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —
A teenager wanted in connection with a wild series of drive-by shootings in Sanford has been arrested in Volusia County. Investigators believe he could be tied to dozens of burglaries in Volusia and Seminole counties.
Deputies in Volusia County tried to stop Jamiroquan McGill, 17, on Friday, but he took off. Authorities, however, were able to track him down thanks to calls from residents in Deltona.
Harvey Gillison lives in a Sanford home that is riddled with bullet holes, a case in which McGill has been named a suspect.
Gillison said he still remembers the two days last year when a barrage of gunfire rattled his neighborhood, and bullets from high-powered guns tore into his walls near where his 3-year-old son was sleeping.
"It's kind of scary, kind of eerie, a whole lot of shots being fired," said Gillison.
But Gillison said he's happy to hear all three suspects, including McGill, are now behind bars.
Sanford police said a rash of shootings and burglaries started in October.
McGill will eventually be taken to Seminole County to face several charges, including attempted murder.
Volusia County investigators said Friday night that they have linked McGill to 15-20 residential burglaries. They believe he may be connected to 50 or more burglaries.
They said most of the burglaries involved kicking in the front doors of homes.
According to investigators, McGill has admitted to being part of a Sanford-based burglary ring.
In addition to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office and Sanford Police Department, law enforcement agencies in Oviedo, Apopka, Longwood and Winter Springs also are working burglary cases that are believed to be connected to McGill.
