BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —
Three teenagers were airlifted to the hospital following an ATV crash in Mims on Saturday, Brevard County officials said.
Investigators said four teens were involved in the crash.
Officials said two drivers and one passenger were flown to two different Orlando hospitals in three separate helicopters.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Morgan Wutlich, 17, Hunter Wade, 12, and Tyler Willhite, 14, were injured in the crash.
Hospital officials said Wade was listed in critical condition, while Wutlich was listed in serious condition. Willhite suffered minor injuries.
Fire rescue officials said the teens were riding in a pack on Hammock Road in Mims, just before 6 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities said one of the ATVs clipped the back of the other, and then the third ATV plowed into the second ATV.
Officials also said one of the ATVs ran over at least two of the teens.
“All were what we call trauma or strict criteria,” Rob Seccuro of Brevard County Fire Rescue said. “We launched three helicopters from Orlando and they all came and picked up our patients. “I mean, in my 23 years of being in Brevard County we've landed three helicopters twice that I know of.”
Troopers said the three drivers, Wutlich, Willhite, and Phillip Matthew, 17, were all issued tickets for illegally driving on a public road, while Wade and Willhite were cited for careless driving. Willhite was also given a ticket for failing to wear a helmet.
