MARION COUNTY, Fla. —
A 48-year-old Umatilla man was charged after police said he used food to lure a black bear close before shooting it with a bow and arrow.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said J.C. Calton’s home sits along the Ocala National Forest. The said Calton lured the bear on Aug. 25 using dog food and corn and then shot it with a broadhead arrow.
The next day, officers said they found the dead bear on a dirt road in a remote area of the forest. Calton admitted to using his truck to drag the bear and dump it, officers said.
Calton will appear in Marion County court on Sept.10.
