VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. —
U.S. marshals are searching for a bankrupt beach vendor who promised to "go postal" and kill Volusia County government officials.
A U.S. Marshals Service bulletin was issued to County Council members stating that 53-year-old Kerry Vagnier said he wanted to kill his attorney and Volusia County government officials.
One county commissioner believes the threats are a result of a county decision that affected Vagnier's business. Vagnier, who rented golf carts, is facing bankruptcy.
Authorities said Vagnier told his attorney that he was "going postal."
A few years ago, the county decided to change how it contracts with vendors on the beach, and some vendors went out of business.
Councilman Josh Wagner said he remembers Vagnier and said the threats are very concerning.
"I can understand him being frustrated. In these times, you don't want to say those types of statements to people because they're going to get blown out of proportion, or if they're real, you have to take them seriously," said Wagner.
So far, marshals have not been able to locate Vagnier. Anyone with information to his whereabouts is asked to contact authorities.
